Dept. III - Feature Film and Television Feature

"What matters is not the beauty of your (postcard) pictures but the unspeakable that, unspoken, is made visible in them."

Robert Bresson’s famous sentence about the fundamental nature of film serves as both the guiding principle of our education program and the definition of our self-concept. We see ourselves in the grand tradition of European cinema – a cinema focused not on special-effects displays, but on story-telling through images. Narrative – i.e. storytelling as an ancient cultural craft developed to help humans understand their actions and their world – finds its contemporary form in the fictional motion picture and the television film.
We want to educate young people who want to tell something: about idiosyncratic people, about great and quiet emotions, about large and small worlds, money, love, power and politics, and about themselves.
